Yesterday was a day well spent- I went to IIMA ( for the uninformed, IIMA- is one of the best management schools in India and among the top in the world.) IIMA is having its annual management fest- ‘Chaos’ and this year’s theme is “Jalsa” meaning “fun” in Gujarati.
Top colleges from around the country have been invited. There are a lot of events being organised- management games like marketing, advertising, branding, portfolio management. There were some really wacky events also like face painting, fingerpainting, graffitti. Then you had the standard contests like western solo singing group singing, fashion shows, choreography, Elocutions, Debates …etc. All said and done, it was a co-curricular freak’s paradise. Most of the performances were off the top drawer. It was challenging to see what the cream of the country’s colleges could do. The ones who didn’t make the grade still managed to pull it off in style.
The only downside was that our college did not give us permission to attend the festival. Their argument being that we need to concentrate on our studies! How ridiculous can you get!!! But we managed to get an invitation anyway and registered ourselves for different events. We had to miss a day of classes, for which we shall definitely have to face the music on Monday. Probably some written assignments to be submitted to the director, arrrrrrrgh! But that’s standard EDI fare. This place is run like a prison!
When I got back late last night after attending a pop concert by Euphoria( I had to leave early because I wasn’t feeling well. I think I overate! Rock band Parikrama is slated for Sunday night!) ,I had a pleasant surprise awaiting me! We have a new Prof. He was the dean at IIMA and taught there for 32 years before he retired! He shall be leading our marketing course which should be very interesting. From what I have heard he is a no nonsense guy but very good at what he does!
Finally some light at the end of the tunnel!
